Ormeggio was reimagined as a gentle coastal breath – a space where Mediterranean ease meets the rhythm of Sydney’s harbour. The redesign marked a deliberate shift for the restaurant: a move toward a more casual, open and effortless setting that still held the sophistication and precision of the food and service it is known for. The aim was not to reinvent Ormeggio, but to allow its hospitality to feel lighter, more relaxed and beautifully aligned from plate to palette.
At its centre, the bar was reshaped into a welcoming stage; a sculpted form in hand-washed plaster and soft stone, punctuated with playful niches that nod to Puglia’s idiosyncratic charm. Service became part of the theatre – a gelato station curving into the room, inviting guests into the ritual as the chef prepared each serve.
The palette is deliberately understated: warm timbers, blush handmade tiles, sun-softened whites. Finishes chosen for their honesty, their ability to age with grace, and their quiet dialogue with the menu. Furniture follows suit – casual yet composed, grounded in natural texture and gentle curves.
The result is a calm, open interior that lets the harbour breathe through it – a place where light moves slowly, textures settle gently, and the experience unfolds with ease. Ormeggio becomes a setting for lingering: long lunches, salt-tinged evenings and conversations that stretch unhurried. A Mediterranean soul carried lightly on an Australian breeze.
